Congratulations to our Winners!

The Hayloft Gang Video Contest was a huge success in helping to promote the PBS documentary film, The Hayloft Gang: The Story of the National Barn Dance. The contest captured the true spirit and tradition of the home talent shows held back in the 1930s and 40s for the wildly popular radio show, The National Barn Dance.

Mustang Mikki  performing “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart”

Howdy Y’all ....I’d like to thank Roy Rogers for teaching me to sing, Janet McBride for teaching me to yodel, Devon Dawson for teaching me to play guitar and Patsy Montana for writing this song!

After Jack performing “My Horses Ain’t Hungry”

Our band performs “My Horses Ain’t Hungry,” a ballad of forbidden romance and triumphant love. We are Mary Allison: Guitar/Ma, Rachel Blankenship: Fiddle/Boy/Pa, and Emily Rose Tucker: Bass/Girl

I Was Born About 4,000 Years Ago performed by Scott Crothers (aka Diesel Bodine). For fun, I created a barrage of distractions to discombobulate the singer (me). Included in the music, I sang and played by old 1967 Martin 00-18 and 6-string Banjo. Hope you like it!

A special thank you to all the contest participant’s.  We had a total of sixty entries from twenty-one different states.  There was some really creative filmmaking, plus we heard everything from ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, accordions, harmonicas and guitars, along with some great singing and yodeling.

We appreciate everyone who followed the contest. We had over forty five thousand unique visits to site.  Twenty eight thousand votes were cast, and three thousand visitors wrote comments.

Please take the time to view the winning entries and learn more about the original National Barn Dance artists.  Please help us build our fan base for the documentary by liking The Hayloft Gang on Facebook.
